TOPPS BUNTY's: Ryan Braun is Player of the Year

As we mentioned earlier in the baseball season, we have our own spin on the MLB post-season awards. We call them the BUNTY’s.

Ryan Braun is your 2012 Topps BUNT Player of the Year.

The Brewers didn’t make the playoffs and Braun didn’t lead his team to glory, but he did lead your Topps BUNT squads to the promise land if you had him for most of the 2012 season.

He finished with a season-high 2,748 PTS, the most by any player in the app. Braun also averaged 17 PTS per game and had a trade value of 126.

On the diamond, he hit 41 homers and had a .319 average. Even without playing in October, he held onto the PTS lead and never let up.

Oh, and if you’re wondering why we’re still giving out baseball awards, it’s because we want to keep BUNT and baseball relevant and in your head as much as possible in the off-season. The more baseball, the merrier. It will be spring 2013 before we know it.

Topps BUNTYs: Verlander wins AL Old Hoss Radbourn Award

As we mentioned earlier in the baseball season, we have our own spin on the MLB post-season awards. We call them the BUNTYs and we don’t give them traditional names.

We love Cy Young. I mean who doesn’t? But our top pitchers win the Old Hoss Radbourn Award. Charles was fierce and so is our 2012 AL winner … Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers.

Mr. Verlander finished with 2,539 PTS in BUNT, along with an 18-9 record and 2.70 ERA. His 251 strikeouts weren’t bad either. Verlander also added a season-high 153 PTS in an ALCS win over Oakland.

We love Cy Young. I mean who doesn’t? But our top pitchers win the Old Hoss Radbourn Award. Charles was fierce and so is our 2012 winner … R.A. Dickey from the New York Mets.

Mr. Dickey recorded 20 wins, a 2.73 ERA and 2,144 PTS in Topps BUNT this year.

Phillies fans claim BUNT bragging rights

We can’t believe it either, but Phillies fans have gained Topps BUNT supremacy this season. Out of the 30 fan bases in the game, the Phillies, Rangers and Cubs fans, in that order, managed to outsmart all other users and win some sort of BUNT fan title. The title consists of this article right here, so enjoy it while it lasts, because we’re expecting changes in 2013 and a whole lot of competition between users.

Phillies fans averaged 4,637 PTS, far ahead of the Rangers (4,086) and Cubs (3,966) fans. It wasn’t even close.

Six of the top 10 fan bases were from the National League.

The Astros, Athletics and Blue Jays finished in the basement at 28, 29 and 30, respectively.

San Fran's top BUNT performers

In taking a look at your World Champion San Francisco Giants, there are some obvious trends and a few BUNT tidbits you may not have been privy too until now.

This is the Topps BUNT spin on things.

San Francisco’s pitching anchored the team this year as evident by their fearless leader Matt Cain, who had a team-high 2,189 PTS in 2012. Ryan Vogelsong (1,660) and Madison Baumgarner (1,525) weren’t too shabby either.

Buster Posey, this year’s NL Batting Champion, was the highest offensive PTS producing player on the Giants with 2,142.

Pablo Sandoval, who put up 117 PTS in Game 1 of the World Series thanks to three home runs and a single, finished with 1,347 PTS this year and a World Series MVP for his Panda trophy case.

If you had any of those players your BUNT roster would have been decent, especially during the playoff crunch.

Sandoval nets 141 World Series PTS in MVP effort

Through four World Series games this year, Pablo Sandoval put together 141 PTS in Topps BUNT to finish the season off strong en route to his MVP performance.

Sandoval, who recorded a franchise-record 24 hits this post-season, had a hit in all four World Series games against the Tigers.

Here’s a look at his Series stretch:

Panda puts up 117 PTS in Game 1

If you own Pablo Sandoval in Topps BUNT, chances are you were gushing last night when you opened the app. Mr. Panda himself issued 117 PTS and catapulted the Giants to an 8-3 victory over Detroit in Game 1 of the World Series.

Sandoval’s night was historic for a number of reasons, but in the BUNT world he had a career-high evening, topping his previous high in PTS (66 in Sept.) and making his season average (7.5 PTS per game) look like a joke.

With three home runs, including two off Justin Verlander, and a single, Sandoval was 4-for-4.

There might be no greater way to go for a bike ride than by mapping out your favorite team’s logo and sticking to it on the ground.

This ride will only be worth it while the going is good. Giants fans should get out and be active. This World Series battle, which begins Wednesday night in San Francisco, could go the distance and be pretty stressful.

Bearded man shouts "Go Cards" as he robs bank

Everyone is crazy during the MLB post-season, especially the folks who rob banks and scream “Go Cards” on their way out.

Just 20 miles south of Busch Stadium, the Jason Motte look alike above showed his spirit for his hometown Cardinals as he committed a crime.

Vogelsong has a BUNT day in Game 6

Giants pitcher Ryan Vogelsong led all players in Game 6 of the NLCS with 111 PTS in BUNT.

Vogelsong, who now has 1,604 PTS for the season, pitched seven innings, striking out 9 and allowing just 1 run.

His career-high day is still 147 PTS in a victory over the Athletics on May 19. He pitched seven innings of shutout ball and had five strikeouts.

Brian Wilson entertains himself

So what if Brian Wilson hasn’t played in 2012 thanks to his second Tommy John Surgery, he’s still keeping occupied in the Giants dugout.

BUNT breakdown: Kyle Lohse (2,106 PTS) is the highest rated NL Pitcher in BUNT behind R.A. Dickey, the favorite to win the NL Cy Young - or Old Hoss Radbourne award at the Topps BUNTY’s. Lohse is coming off a no-decision against the Nationals in the NLDS, a 93-PT effort that saw him pitch 7 innings and strikeout 5. It was more fruitful for BUNT users than his 47-PT performance against the Braves in the NL Wildcard game where he still received the victory, but lasted only 5.2 innings and allowed 6 hits, 2 runs and 1 walk.

On the other side is Matt Cain, right behind Lohse on the NL Pitching leaders board with 2,044 PTS this season. Like Lohse, he also had a victory in a playoff game after throwing just 5.2 innings and scattering 6 hits, 3 runs and 2 walks in the effort for just 29 PTS.

Verlander continues to impress in BUNT

After his 153 PT performance in the ALDS, Justin Verlander didn’t disappoint BUNT users and Tigers fans with his Game 3 victory against the Yankees on Tuesday night. The Tigers ace accumulated 139 PTS in 8.1 innings of work to accompany his three strikeouts and one earned run.

Verlander now has 2,590 PTS for the season and a 292 PT trade value, meaning if you’re idiotic enough to get rid of him off your BUNT team, you’ll get a couple of games worth of PTS to soften the blow. Verlander currently is the fourth highest rated player in BUNT behind Ryan Braun, Mike Trout and teammate Miguel Cabrera.

Also, if you’re counting, that’s 25 strikeouts for Verlander this postseason over 24.1 innings of work. Talk about a work horse.

As it doesn’t seem likely the Tigers will lose this series, Verlander still has one or two outings left, so hang onto him and enjoy the BUNT ride.

By now, you know all about the Yankees’ struggles for offense this postseason.

Apparently, it’s all A-Rod’s fault. Well he’s at least he’s still having a good time in the dugout after being benched.

In Game 1 of the ALCS, he reportedly had a ball boy give a baseball to a few lovely looking women near the Yankee dugout asking for their number.

The women and Alex exchanged smiles for most of the night. Hey, I heard there were two of them. Need a wingman, Alex?
